ABOUT THE ARTIST

Covid Ribbon Memorial by Cathy Tobias

Cathy Tobias

“With my camera in hand, I approach life’s journey as if I am on a photo safari.”

Cathy is an award winning photographer who currently splits her time between Anna Maria, Florida and Saint Paul, Minnesota where she lives and works. Cathy’s work emerges from her belief that life is short; take time to see, feel, experience, and make a difference.

Early in her career, she obtained degrees in Occupational Therapy and a Masters in Organizational Leadership. She worked in physical rehabilitation as a therapist and clinical director, specializing in neurophysiological disorders like stroke, multiple sclerosis, dementia, and Alzheimer’s. Later, she owned and operated a senior care management company. She was an aging-care specialist and certified life coach.

Later, Cathy attended Ringling College of Art and Design earning a Certificate in Photography. With her photography, Cathy aims to capture new perspectives, even in the familiar, inspiring a deeper love and meaning for life, intensifying a thirst for adventure, sparking imagination, provoking empathy and deepening gratitude and appreciation for life.

Cathy has had several solo photography exhibitions in places such as Saint Paul, MN and Madison, WI. She has won multiple awards for her photography at local shows. Most recently, February 2021, Cathy won the Excellence in Photography Award for her work, “Raised Fist in Solidarity”, at The Artists’ Guild of Anna Maria Island’s 12th Annual Fine Arts Exhibition, “Art Unleashed”.

Beyond Cathy’s work expertise, on a personal note, many years ago she lost her first baby. Cathy knows the pain of losing a loved one. She is able to deeply empathize with the families and friends who lost their loved ones to Covid-19 from her own personal experience combined with her own caring work in healthcare. Cathy’s compassion, experience, expertise, and creativity are a perfect combination from which the Covid Ribbon Memorial has emerged.
